Cody's Comeback: A Story of Faith and Fight

Eric and Stacia Scott are no strangers to caring for others. As lifelong residents of Carmel, Indiana, they have built a reputation for opening their hearts and serving their community. With three young boys of their own, Shepherd (6), Easton (4), and Cody (2), their lives have always been rooted in family, faith, and service.

But on July 1, 2025, their world shifted in an instant.

What started as unexplained fevers, leg pain, and fatigue soon turned into every parent’s nightmare. After an inconclusive ER visit, Cody’s condition worsened. The Scotts rushed back to IU North, and within hours, doctors made the decision to transfer him to Riley Hospital for Children. It was there, through an MRI and further testing, that the devastating diagnosis was confirmed: Stage M High Risk Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive pediatric cancer.

The cancer had started near Cody’s adrenal gland and had already spread to his stomach, liver, clavicle, bones, and bone marrow.

Cody’s Fight Begins

At just two years old, Cody has already stepped onto a path most adults could never imagine. His treatment plan is long and grueling: rounds of chemotherapy in 5-day cycles, major surgeries, stem cell and bone marrow transplants, radiation, and targeted therapies. Each step is daunting, but Cody is a fighter. And every day, his parents and brothers stand faithfully at his side, holding onto hope and clinging to their faith.

The Weight the Scotts Carry

Behind every hospital stay lies a heavy reality. The Scotts are not only navigating the emotional toll of Cody’s diagnosis, but also the financial burden that comes with it.

Even with cost sharing as small business owners, the out-of-pocket medical bills are staggering. A single stem cell transplant can reach $300,000. Chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy add tens of thousands more.

And then there are the hidden costs, the ones that do not come with a doctor’s bill but still weigh heavily: travel and lodging for out of state treatments, meals during weeks long hospital stays, childcare for Shepherd and Easton, and the simple reality of time away from work. Over the next two years, these non-medical expenses alone could exceed $60,000.

Where We Step In

The Garrett Family Foundation is honored to come alongside the Scotts through our Immediate Impact program. We are making a donation to help ease the heavy financial burden they now face, and we invite you to join us. The Scotts have spent years giving selflessly to others, and now it is our turn to give back, to surround them with love, support, and tangible help in their time of greatest need.

Because no family should ever walk this road alone. If you would like to join us in supporting Cody and his family, you can make a direct donation to them here: Support Cody's Comeback | SupportNow.org
